Petrus

Blocks, edge orientation, two-gen F2L, then the last layer.
Lars Petrus's method builds the first two layers as blocks rather than pairs, and orients the edges before finishing them, so the end of F2L needs only R and U turns and the last layer starts with its edges oriented, as in ZZ.

Blocks

Build a 2x2x2 block (a corner, its three edges and the centres around them) anywhere, then extend it to a 2x2x3 by adding a side's corner and two edges. Both steps are intuitive; plan the first block in inspection.

Edge orientation

Hold the block at the back left. An edge is bad if it cannot be solved with R and U turns alone: look at the U and D stickers of the edges (or their F and B stickers in the middle layer). Fix bad edges in pairs, usually by bringing them to the front and turning F.

F2L

Finish the first two layers with R and U turns: the remaining two pairs and the last cross edges fit in the R and U layers without breaking the block.
F2L done: the last layer is left.
