Using Cubology

Cubology is free. Play fair: no cheating in ranked play, no abuse of other cubers, no attacks on the service. We may suspend accounts that break this. Cubology comes as it is, without guarantees. You own what you write; you let us store and show it to run Cubology.

What we collect

    • Without an account, your solves, history and settings stay on your device. Page visits on the website are counted without cookies.
    • With an account: your username, email, birth year, password (stored only as a hash), your WCA ID if you link it, and what you sync: solves, times, smart-cube turns, training and settings.
    • In online and ranked play: the scrambles you get, your results and their timing, and a smart cube's turns, to keep results fair.
    • Friends, chat and calls: your friends, groups and messages. Calls connect you directly or through a relay, and are never recorded.
    • Family: a parent's email when a child or teen invites them, which parents are linked to a child, a parent's approvals and settings, and how long a child's calls last, for the parent's weekly summary (never message content).
    • Voice: when you speak to Cubology (Name That Alg answers, spoken bug reports), the audio goes to our speech service to become text.
    • What you send us: bug reports (with the app's logs), concerns, and why you deleted your account.
    • Reports and blocks: when you report or block someone, we receive who, your reason, and the recent messages they sent you, and keep them for safety; a deleted account's name is removed from them.
    • Competition alerts: your email and postal code.
    • Requests to our servers (the app, our public API and MCP server): per day, a scrambled form of your address, your country, browser or client, and your account or key if you use one, kept 90 days to spot abuse.
Data from a StackMat or G5 timer is read on your device; it is never recorded or sent.

How we use it

To run Cubology: syncing, friends, chat, matches, and the emails you ask for. We do not sell your information.

Improving Cubology

We may use information from your use of Cubology, such as your solves, times, turns, cubes and settings, to run, develop and improve Cubology, including by building and training predictive models. We will tell you how we use it. Where a parent's consent is required, as for children under 13, we use a child's information this way only with that consent.

Services we use

Cloudflare (hosting, visit counts and call relays), Google (connecting calls), Resend (email), AssemblyAI (speech to text), Kids Web Services by Epic Games (checking a parent's consent), and the WCA (if you sign in with it). They handle your information only to do that work.

Your account

Sign out at any time; what is on your device stays. Export your history from Preferences. Delete your account on the Account page: that erases it and everything synced to it. Matches you played against others keep their results, without your name.

Children

Cubology is for cubers of every age. Friends and chat need your birth year. Under 9: no friends or chat. 9 to 12: friends, chat and calls open only after a parent links their account and their consent is verified, and the parent approves each friend. 13 to 17: friends only; a parent may link. A child under 13 needs a parent's permission to create an account.

Changes

We will post changes here with a new date, and tell you in the app about important ones.
